"RE: D4 Movie Mode"

Philip Bloom posted an excellent video comparing the Nikon D4, the Nikon D800 and the Canon 5D Mark III.

To make a long story short, Bloom likes the D4's excellent low light sensitivity, but sees the D4's daylight shots as being much too soft at full frame and 1.5 crop, and only useable at 2.7 crop.

Does anyone understand why changing the crop selection would increase video sharpness?
