Sorry to hear about the problem you are experiencing with your newly acquired D2X.

Is there any information displayed on the top LCD screen? Even with with the camera turned off and battery inserted, there should be some informtion displayed, i.e. remaining images the CF card can hold. If there is no info, that isn't a good sign. I would suspect a shorted out circuit board. If you have access to an external power source for the D2X, you could see if that powers up the camera.

In the future, i recommend the use of a CF card reader to tranfer images to your PC. I have always used a card reader just to avoid opening and closing the USB port cover.
