I guess I stared this discussion so I'll throw in my updated perpsective - first I truly appreciate everyone's comments and thoughtful responses - your opinions are very helpful to me - I've had my D4 for a few weeks (would have had it sooner but UPS thought TN was TX, where I live!) - I replaced my D3 with the D4 so that change, for me, was a big upgrade - I agree, the D4 is a subtle upgrade from the D3S - I actually like the new Sony card - it's much larger and more substantial than a SD card - the D4 came with a free 16GB card and reader so that was a $175 savings - the D4 video is a definite step up from the D3S - the D4 seems to focus a tad bit faster especially with my 84/1.4 AFD lens - D4 focusing in a dark room also seems a little bit better to me - D3S and D4 noise control are pretty close - NEF camera in processing is much better on the D4 (probably not a big deal to most shooters) - D3S battery is clearly better but if Japam is truly cracking down on batteries then we won't see another EN-EL4a battery ever again - so far, I am very pleased with the D4 - my only true disappointment has been with Adobe - Adobe requires CS5 to process D4 raw files ($200 - $600 cost) - I had to bite the bullet there since I only have CS4 - to me that is pretty crappy - D800 users will have the same issue - I too thought about a D800 - I was very tempted - but to me, it has more hidden costs than the D4 - namely, I'd want to do big prints (at least 24" wide) with a D800 - my Epson 3800 will only do 17" wide prints - ADD a new 24" wide Epson printer for $3000 (not counting ink or paper) - my 3.2GHz, Dell XPS pc is quick but not so quick if I am talking about a 500MB - 1TB PSD file - ADD $1500 for a new PC - my 4TB of external HD's are pretty full - ADD $500 for another 2-4TB of external HD - ADD $200 for a few 32GB CF Cards - ADD $450 ,if one is crazy enoght, for a plastic MBD-12 - so the D800, all in, is now about a $9000 investment - grated, one should be able to capture some prety spectacular pictures after they recover from the beating their spouse or significant other will lay on them! - I hope whatever Nikon camera you all pick, D3S, D4, D800, D400, etc, don't get buyer's remorse - these are all great cameras - enjoy them - life is all too short - Jim
