I am patiently (not really lol) waiting for my call as well..for my D4.
Coming from D300s and D700 bodies, my original plan was to keep the D700 and buy a D800.
I too understand about pre-buyers remorse. It hit me like a ton of bricks when the D800 started shipping. That combined with a game of cat and mouse with my order from the retailer, I started re-thinking the entire process.
A lot of research and from other Nikonian's members (shop at smaller retailers), I ended up finding a small boutique type of shop that was very accommodating, easy to deal with and the best service I have ever received when shopping for camera gear.
I ended up trading my D700, selling the D300s and will be down to one body when the D4 arrives. At the end of the day, I really wanted a pro-body. The upgrade will be huge and I have been lusting after a pro-body ever since I attached a grip to my first digital SLR Nikon a D50....Omg yes a D50!
I am number 8 on the list and hoping for an April delivery! May is my birth month so it could be a great birthday.......
I thought I died and went to heaven with the D200 and the D300s and the D700, and while I really wanted the D800 with the smaller price tag, I really wanted the D4. I'll probably end up a D800 as a backup or maybe another D700 body (just in case).
Although I am sure there will some D4 purchasers with remorse, I am will not be one.
