I'm not sure it's completely a Nikon issue anymore.
I visited my local Calumet in San Francisco on May 7th and paid for half of my D4 with cash and the other half with credit.
I received my D4 on May 28th. They didn't charge my credit card until the 28th.
On the 7th, the rep told me that this particular store had 18 pre-orders placed but a very small few put ANY money down. She told me that by putting cash down, even 50%, put me very close to the top of the list.
On the 21st, I called for a status or to see where on the list I was, the rep on the phone said I was about 3rd in line but if any of the people who put a pre-order in before me decides to put down any real cash they would be placed ahead of me.
On the 28th, I dropped into the store, they charged the other half on my credit card, and I walked out with my D4.
The rep had told me that all of a sudden they received 12 D4's Saturday evening, opened the shipment Sunday and started calling people on their list.
I'd imagine that Nikon knows of B&H and the volume of business they do and should be fulfilling orders as quickly as possible, especially if I can only wait 3 weeks for my camera.
I really hope this update doesn't bum you out but I thought I would relay my experience.
Oh, and if anyone is interested, my package did come with the XQD card and reader.
