D1 original, still worth buying?

Alan,

I don't know the lens Bob C. used in that photo of the Racers's Group Porsche 996 GT car; I presume that it was his 80mm - 200mm f/2.8 AF-S. He was an accredited photographer to the event and has good relations with the 'Racer's Group' members. His primary camera is an F100. I'm also certain that he had VERY GOOD access to the berm of the road on which the race took place.

From the file numbers of half dozen images he posted on the 'Porsche Pete's Boxster Board' I estimate he shot about 1200 to 1500 frames using the Nikon D1; I'm not certain of what his film use rate was. The next time I see him I'll find out the details.
