"Cards vs Microdrives"

I'm a newbie on digital camera equipment, forgive me if this is really dumb.

Other than bytes stored, what's the story in comparing cards to the microdrives - all the plusses and minus - write times, failures, crashes, dropping etc....

Does someone here have a link to a really good, rational comparison ? I hear different stories from a few guys at work - none of which are Nikon users - and want to know Nikon related issues.

I'm looking to get a D1X in the summer and still shaking out all the issues. It's a STRETCH of the wallet for me, but I figure I'll save it on film, driving time and processing alone in about 2 years or so.

Thanks -
