Yes, mechanical performance is great and even more important optical performance doesn't lag behind. At the 80 mm range it seems to be better than my Tokina 28-80. Though the real shoot-out on a tripod is yet to come. I believe the handheld 80-400 images look sharper due to the VR.

Hehe ... I reduced my failure rate at parades from about 25 % to 10 percent by discovering that little button. I'm usually too excited about new gadgets and go testing without reading the manual first ...
