ok i have "tried it myself" and ur absolutely right abt the noise and lower resolving power. (the color saturation i was more or less satisfied with) the problem is that i shoot a lot of theatre performances, dance/music concerts where the lighting is extermly low and movements are rapid. even iso 800 gives me extremely slow shutter speed and since most places dont allow using speedlights i have no option but to use hi1 and hi2. i will however try shooting as NEF, hope this yeilds better results!! thanx a ton! regards, sumeet.
