The problem in the v1.00 firmware was that the white balance bracketing - where the camera saves several versions of the same shot using different settings - didn't work if you previewed the shot on the LCD while the camera was still processing. There was no problem with the white balance itself being inaccurate.

The success of the auto white balance is very dependent on what you have in your shot; it's possible for the camera to get things wrong in either direction although it does tend to the 'cool' side, as indeed do the presets: you may have noticed that the 'Direct Sunlight' preset is rather on the cold side, hence the reason many people favour "Cloudy -3" or "Shade +3" as a standard daylight setting.
