The longer one waits before cleaning, the more the particles are stuck to the CCD. Then scrubbing becomes necessary. To think of that guy in England who made the adapter to vacuum it clean, that'd only work (perhaps) if it was done every few days, before the particles become stuck to the surface. A good time to have Nikon clean it would be when the camera is sent for this new firmware upgrade.
