I understand wanting to preserve detail and using .nef files for the shoot. Sooner or later the file will have to leave the the warm cocoon of Nikon and enter the real world. Is the best option then a .jpg?

Which standard holds the most detail and is universally understood by processors? TIFF? BMP?
