"RE: D1 vs CP5000"

I just ordered an Olumpus C3020 ($449)from B&H, after looking, thinking, over and over again.

I rejected the new Leica because I finally realized I was being drawn more by the name than the camera. I said no to the Fuji S1 Pro because it is not compatible with Mac OS X; I decided against some of the interesting Minoltas because there is no diopter control; I rejected other cameras (including the Nikon D1's) on price for now.

And I agree with what so many are saying: Why do I want to spend more money for a digicam than I paid for my F5 and have it do less?

So, for now, I'll use the C3020--probably for a few years. In the mean time, I'm building up my F5 kit with lenses that will eventually (I hope!) also work with the Nikon digital SLR that will be part of my future.

I'm also thinking about a Nikon scanner--the IV or 4000; but the decision is probably a few months away.

Why Olympus digicam over Nikon Coolpixes? I'm not sure. In part, because I'm familiar with the Olumpus Camedia 2000's and 3000's from work and also because the Camedia 3020 in particular put together rechargeable NiMH capacity, 3MP, diopter adjustment, and right price in the same camera.

My apologies if I've gone on for too long--I guess I'm still wound up from taking so long (3 months?!) to make the digicam choice.
