I agree that Nikon is missing a huge market segment (e.g. Me) by not having a mid-priced "N80" style digital camera. Design-wise it wouldn't be too hard to make one. An N80 style body, with the CP5000's electronics and the D1's CCD. Price-wise it may be a different story. If the D1's CCD is actually 25% of it's cost, then I can see that it might be difficult to build a "D80" that would sell for less the $2000 which I would expect Nikon to see as the maximum list price that they could hope to sell in the prosumer market.

Like George, I am waiting for that small $1000 5Mpixel+ digital Nikon SLR. Unfortunately I expect that Nikon probabily won't be able to produce such a device for at least another year or so. In the mean time I will just continue do my best to keep the film companies in business.
