Another advantage of the D1 models over other Nikon digitals is the ability to record RAW data files which can be manipulated much more than Jpegs and tiffs. I love being able to change the white balance after-the-fact. This file type is not going to be of interest to the casual user but many hobbists will love the capabilities.
The D1 can be purchased used for about $2,000 now. Its a bit risky to buy one used, but if you can find a trustworthy seller, I'd recommend one as an alternative to the CP5000. I bought a used D1 and am happy with it. Guess I was lucky...
