I didn't try the non D version on a DSLR but I do remember it being poor in my F90X on Velvia... It took me ages to convince myself to try the D version and I'm glad I did. Incidently my 20-35mm f2.8 AFD is sharper than the 28 but is much bigger and heavier... so when I'm shooting for me I tend to use the primes... One more job and I can afford the 85mm f1.8 AF-S G!!

D3 + 20mm f2.8 AFD + 105mm f2.8 AFD + 300mm f4 AFS
