It's not really weak though... The non-D version used on my F90X was bland - poor contrast and not overly sharp - that's what I'd call a weak performer. This lens has bags of contrast and is sharp - really sharp. I know they improved the D version but I'm astonished at how good it is...

To me that is spot on for contrast, sharpness etc. Minimal PP in View NX 2 - slight crop...
