I own this lens. The lens is great, especially if you're shooting at f/1.4 - f/2 since there's no other Nikon 24mm that can touch that. At smaller apertures it's just sharp all around.
Now the downside of the lens is it's heavy and large. It's almost as heavy as my 28-300 and its large size almost rivals it. Compared with my 24 f/2.8 it's a GIANT. However, unlike the 24 f/2.8 I have speed.
I have a set of pictures in my Flickr page for examples. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nathantw/sets/72157627518283845/) There are photos there where I shot at 1/60 second at f/1.4 set at ISO 6400. Couldn't get those shots with a f/2.8 even if I wished real hard with my eyes closed and my hands closed into a fist since the shutter speed would have been 1/15 of a second or used a flash unit.
As another person said in a different forum talk about certain lenses come in waves. Unfortunately the wave is out right now for the 24mm f/1.4g.
