IMHO- as an experienced airshow goer, get the 50-500 OS. It's a Sigma lens.

Of the two you mentioned in your OP the 70-200 is too short and the 80-400 has screwdriver AF which is less than ideal. You'll need the best AF you can get for movers.

Now, someones going to pop up with great pix taken with the Nikkors. But.....

If you want one telephoto for an airshow, it's the Sigma.

(I think I've cracked this now. I use a D700/ 16-35VR combo for statics and the 300s/ Bigma for everything else)
