I'm going to go against the consensus here.

I looked at this lens, but I did not like it. I had a coworker/fellow Nikonian that has this lens so I have some experience but did not use it a great deal.

NOTE: I tried this lens with FILM and my perspective is that of a FILM (FX) shooter that primarily shoots ARCHITECTURE.

While it was okay from wider than 20-35mm, there was too much barrel distortion between 18-20mm range (again, with film...24mm x 36mm image area). By 20mm it was decent, but 24mm it was virtually non-existant from what I recall.

But the whole point of this was to be able to shoot ultra wide angles and have a near rectilinear lens. A prime 20mm did this better for me, although my prime is a 24mm, it ultimately was more user friendly (for me and my style of shooting).

Ultimately, for a WA zoom, (for film) I purchased a used 20-35mm f/2.8. Better constructed, and while there was a bit of barrel distortion at 20mm, I found it usable for my needs. I ended up selling this lens to fund a Markins M20 ball head...a pretty good trade. (Though now I do want another WA zoom which has me rethinking my lens system.).

As a 77mm filter lens, it was an odd one in my arsenal but I did not plan on using a CPL on this lens due to the nature of polarization on super-WA lenses.

If you are going to use this lens for anything that does not require a high degree of rectilinear correction, then the 18-35 would be an okay choice. It just wasn't for me.
