Interestingly (I hope...!), I owned the 200-400mm f/4G VR for some time and used it for wildlife and aviation shots, mostly hand-held - I found it rather tricky to handle.

So, I decided to change it for a 300mm f/2.8G VR, which I now use with and without TC's and find it much easier to manage. The weight is a little less, but the balance is much nicer - probably because the 200-400mm is longer and has more glass towards the outer end of the barrel.
