Although not cheap you could pair an AFS 17-35 f/2.8 for your wide needs and have 17 f/2.8 on the wide end and 35 on the long end. 17 = 25.5 with the crop but would give you 17-70 f/2.8 coverage that I think you are asking about. For me, I use a Tokina AT-X Pro 20-35 f/2.8 paired with my 35-70 and 180 f/2.8 for a fast lens kit. Works very well for DX and FX.
