Anthony has done a good job recapping this lens. You will also find many posts through the search tool. To give you some idea of the solid performance, I'll relate my own recent experience. After using the 28-105 on my D2Hs since 2005, I finally got a replacement for it this year (kept it of course). I purchased a used 24-85 AFS f3.5-4.5, which has faster focus and 4mm wider angle. The newer lens benefits from AFS and some newer tech in coatings, but it's optical formula being wider has significantly more distortion. I am pleased with the lens and am using it as my walk around lens, but I really miss the extra length, and flatness of field the old standby gives. I loved this lens on my F4 and I will revert to the 28-105 if I go to an FX camera, at least until I could afford the 24-120 f4 or 24-70 f2.8. The 28-105 is very fine and many of my favorite shots were taken with it. Oh the Bokeh is okay, not the creamy backgrounds of the 2.8 lenses, but not bad. Hope you enjoy your new lens, let us know how it works on that nice camera of your. Cheers, Christopher My_Nikonians_Gallery ~ My_Blog ~ my Nikonians gallery.
