The question for me is whether I would swap my 80-200mm f/2.8D (nonAF-S, non-VR) lens for the 70-200 f/4 AF-S VR. For field sports, I'd love the extra 10mm on the short end, and 95% of the time I'm shooting at f/4 or more. And with my failing shoulders the lighter lens would be better. Hmmmm. I think I would still say no to a SWAP...and I'm not sure I'd want to add this to my collection. I'd rather spend my money on a 300mm f/4.
And speaking of f/4 lenses...does the 70-200 f/4 suggest that Nikon is trying to build a solid, up-to-date stable of f/4's? Specifically, does this predict the release of a new 300mm f/4 VR? A faster-focusing 80-400 f/4 (I'd love this one!), etc?
