This is a timely subject for me. A week ago I was shooting at Bosque del Apache with my D4, 600 F/4, TC-20 E III and became very frustrated with a huge majority of out-of-focus photos. I had the above equipment mounted on a Gitzo 5562GTS with Wimberley WH 200. The still shots were just about as bad as the flight shots of the cranes and geese. The last day I went out and set up out of the wind, all locked down tight, and used a remote trigger. Still no bueno.
Both of the attached photos were taken at 1200mm @ f/8, 1/640 sec, ISO 400. The only thing I didn't try was Mirror Lock Up. A friend in the local camera club suggested I crank up the ISO and shoot at 1/2000 sec. I have not yet tried that.
Any and all suggestions appreciated as I am sure it is pilot error and this pilot is frustrated.
