Thanks, Roger. Yeah, I tend to be circumspect. I will read all I can find about a certain lens and try to make the most logical decision based on my needs. I have wasted a lot of time and money in the past on lenses that I have looked at after I bought it and ask myself why I got it, so now I am more careful.
So as a result I am of the opinion that it is better to have fewer lenses, keeping those that are relevant to my style, and getting to know them well. I want to be able to choose the lens that fits the type of photo I want to create and not have to fumble around. Having to mess around with a lens spoils creativity. The equipment you use should be an extension of you and should 'disappear' so you are free to work the image.
I think that's what separates the snapshooters from the pros. That's where I want to be, with the pros.
So, having said all that, a question. I have read where some photographers think the 50-55mm range places them too close to their subjects. Have you found that to be true with your 17-55?
