Most of my travel is with a tour group and they don't wait for me to change lenses or foot zoom, so a one lens solution is the only solution for me. 24mm (on FX) or 16mm (on DX) is as wide as I find I need in city shots. My DX travel set up was a D300 with the 16-85 VR and that combination was outstanding. When the 24-120 f4 VR came out I moved to the D700 and 24-120 combination. Both lenses are excellent, but I could not get by using the 24-120 on a DX body.
