Not really. Temp was about 90, kids didn't have anything sticky. The substance appeared to be the glue that binds the rubber grip ring to to focusing ring. When I pressed down on it with the tip of my finger, the glue seemed to seep out from under the rubber. I have never had this problem with any other lens even in hotter temperatures!
