Brian, I ran a series of test shots with varying combinations (no hood, no filter @ 2.8, 5.6, 8.0; just hood, no filter @ 2.8, 5.6, 8.0; etc.) at different focal lengths, both RAW and jpegs. First, the variations are surprising! Still see vignetting on all combinations when shot at f/2.8. I was checking my D700 settings and realized I had the Vignette Control at NONE. Changed it to NORMAL and noticably better results, though still some vignetting at 2.8. Changed the setting to HIGH and much better, though still a wee bit of light fall off at the edges.

Any reason NOT to leave the Vignette Control setting on the camera at HIGH?
