I recently acquired a beautiful used VR I from a fellow Nikonian, but haven't had an opportunity to use it until this weekend and was reading the manual last night. I was wondering about the following statement in the manual: "If you set the AF start (AF-ON) button to ON, VR does not work." I was going to post an inquiry about that and now, reading your advice, it appears I should either turn the AF-ON off or, as you state, get used to pressing the shutter release half way at the same time. Seems it would be easier for me to just turn the AF-ON off!
