I fought a lot with VR version 1. This lens is much better at recognizing VR isn’t always needed. That said - I shut it off in good light. In low light you’ll want to take time to let it settle. VR takes less time to settle in and lock than it takes for me to stabilize.
Practice really slow shutter speeds at 200mm. I practice zoomed in to a good focus target like a light switch. 1/25 second is a good place to start. It isn’t as good as a tripod at this point because VR doesn’t prevent twisting the lens. Try the same thing without VR. VR helps. It isn’t everything you could ever want. Learn the limitations.
VR doesn’t slow the subject. I occasionally forget that.
