Not to worry, Peter. The topic is just as relevant as when it was originally posted, and there's more information about this lens, which was a new product back then. (I was considering getting one back then, but now have had one for almost a year.)
The lens seems like an especially good match for lighter cameras like the D3100 and D5100, and I really like it on my D300. As a confirmed DX user I'm delighted that Nikon is issuing DX lenses like this (and the 35 f1.8; 85 micro) that are more affordable, that perform well, and that take advantage of the smaller sensor so they can be smaller and lighter.
