I have enjoyed reading all the posts and have learned how to separate amateurs from trained photographers. While reading one of my photo books I think I found the formula this thread might need. If one of the admins could review Alfred A. Blakers book "Applied Depth of Field" pg.260 has simple formula and Ch 3 Formula 3 explains it in depth. I would post it but not sure who owns the info. The book was published in 1985 by Focal Press not sure this ISBN number is still valid 0-240-51730-X. Hope this helps.
