Dear Ian

That's a wonderful portrait and as you say the eyes are brought out wonderfully.

The nearest I've gotten to this is slow synch which of coures requires a small aperture. With the 85mm f/1.4 you usually want to be wide -as in your example.

How do you set this up - does it have to be 100% manual?
