While both Matrix metering systems are generally good, the F4 is much more dated than the F100's. The F4 had the 5 segment and far fewer scenes in it's database (I don't have the exact number). It was also strictly 2D metering.

The F100 is 10 segments, further refining the scene, and more scenes in memory to compare to. It is also had 3-D metering with D and G lenses. The only difference between it's meter and F5's meter was the use of color in the metering.

So by the book the F100 is superior. However, it has to be a tricky scene to see the real difference. I have found the spot meter to be effective, but have not done much with the zone system in the last 20 years.
