Wanted an N90s, but couldn't afford it, but I did get was a slightly better AF module (albeit in body with a slower AF motor). Didn't get an N80 (used) until later. For the way I shoot, I loved the Wide and Narrow AF sensors, bright viewfinder, and Quick Recall (QR) functions; metering with AI and AI-S lenses.
Yes it had that funky user interface, but it kinda worked for me.
Having said that, the N80, F100 and D70 (my office's) and current D700 have a pretty similar layout in that it isn't too hard to figure basic functions...terminology changes as do the custom menus, but then again, they are all still Nikon.
I just got my D700 but don't see myself dropping my F100 completely just yet.
