Got my D800 this morning and have been shooting away to test it out. Here is a pic of a milkweed pod I had laying around for planting this spring. Not a spectactularly great shot but its ok for just fooling around. Taken with a Tamron 90mm f/2.8. Shot this at ISO 100, f40, 1 second, Tripod mount, 135mm DX focal length. I also shot the pod with a Nikon 28-300VR and it's almost as good. Just letting folks know whats doable with only little set-up time and no studio.

Not spectacularly great? Well I think it IS great. Very impressive and thanks for posting. Encouraging while the wait for Berger to ship goes on, and on.

Beautiful shot! Shows the massive detail off very well.

>Or give me advice as to how to add the links in these posts.

Just go to the wiki FAQs, I did it this morning and it's clear and concise.

Anybody do a test on a Zeiss 25, 28, 35 or 100 yet?

I habe lots of process changes ahead of me and look forward to the adventur

Thanks for the compliment. I shot it with my Tamron Di SP 90mm f/2.8. It was shot at f40, 1 second, ISO 100, natural light, with tripod. Probably at a distance of about 15 inches. I was just doing some quick tests of my different lenses and comparing them to each other on the D800. To answer another question from others, yes it is a small crop (maybe an 80% image) just to fill the frame. I didn't take the time to frame it when I shot it and I have a thing about 'perspective'. It was focused both using Live View and the viewfinder (again just testing what works best for me on the 800). I think it could have been sharper... but again it was just a test shot for my own purposes. In another post I mention that I am suspicious about the D800's IQ when using DX lenses and I am still checking that out. Seems like the FX lenses in the FX mode are sharper than DX lenses in the DX mode. AT least to my eye. Maybe due to downsampling in FX producing sharper pics. I may be swapping out my DX lenses it that proves itself out. Other opinions on that??

Greetings,

A most impressive shot! The richness of the color is at least as impressive as the detail.

Is this an uncropped image?

Thanks for posting.

Cheers,

Jim
