I have white circles showing up after taking a picture. I've changed lenes, cards, lcd screen and checked the sensor with a loupe. It was in the picture when I down loaded them to the computer. Is my sensor going bad? Please help with ideas. The camera is 9 months old should the repair be coverer under warranty?

Thesse are the white circles I've been talking about. After checking the sensor a second time there is a little dust, but that usually shows up black. Again I get the same thing with different cards and lenes.

See if these blemishes are in the same place on each photo. If so, I'm pretty sure you have goobers on your sensor. There are posts on this forum about what to buy and how to remedy this. It's a little scary at first, but with the right tools and a little care, you should be as good as new.

I don't think this is a sensor failure. One would expect that sort of thing to be on a pixel by pixel basis, yet your photo shows distributed globs that affect numerous pixel sites in a symmetrical way.

Creating images the new-fashioned way!

What you have is 2 oil spots and 2 dust spots.
You don't have to clean your whole sensor to get rid of these spots.
Just get yourself a magnifying glass and Sensor Klear pen from the same company that makes lens pens. Magnifying glass will let you see where spots are and use Sensor Klear pen to flick them off.
BTW, Sensor Klear pen and Lens Pen are not the same thing.
Lens Pen uses very fine carbon to clean lenses. Sensor Klear uses nothing but very soft felt.

It looks like dust and drops of something on the protective glass over the sensor.

At the top of this (D800) forum, you'll find a complete article on sensor cleaning and maintenance called Zen and the Art of Digital Sensor Maintenance.

Thanks everyone. I cleaned the sensor before my last trip and didn't bring my stuff with me. I've never dealt with oil before so I think I'll pay to have it done this time.

The cleaning chemicals used in wet cleaning the sensor may very well take care of whatever it is, oil included. It may take multiple swabs to get all of it. But I would give it try before sending camera back.

The white circles in the center of the spots suggests that is it not normal oil or dust. To be brighter than the surrounding area it must not only be translucent but is concentrating light to be brighter after passing through it. So what material or liquid would dry in a contour that would become a concentrating lens? That leave oil and water out. Thee are some spores that would have the correct shape, as do pollens. If is is pollen, it might be hard to get off due to the organic "glue" they stick to landing surfaces with.
If it Methyl Alcohol, (a simple less expensive name for "Eclipse" fluid) is pretty good as an organic solvent that could dissolve the glue if its pollen or spores.
Try cleaning and see what happens.

Visible Dust's 'Smear Away' fluid should get rid of the oil drops. See http://www.visibledust.com/WetCleaningManual.php

The tech that cleaned the sensor said it wasn't oil, but appeared to be water spots. I have no idea where the water came from. It was windy the first couple of days of my trip without any rain. At least that scare is over.

Could have been from some sort of pollen or something else moist attached to a dust particle.

It could not be water spots, which is usually used to describe the ring of residue left after water evaporates, because it needs to have a 3d structure to concentrate light, which is why I said it was not water but a liquid water drop could offer enough refraction for light concentration. That would evaporate in hours however.
So whatever it was, it had structure and a high refraction index and now is gone due to cleaning.
This case in only unusual in that it was not typical of the dust/oil/water spots that we see in DSLRs.

Thanks for sharing this. It confirms my conclusion that I too have a dust spot. In camera sensor cleaning has not moved it. So I will embark on the sensor cleaning journey.

The spot is in the upper left corner. At first I thought that it was a bird.

Bit sad I know, but I looked at your equipment profile to see if you owned a D600!

My local dealer cleaned the two spots, and found a few more. Attributed them to "heavy breathing". No not me, zoom lenses.
