Does anybody know how much it costs to get the HDMI connector on a D800 repaired/replaced?

I doubt that this will be covered by warranty. Would I be better off getting it repaired by a third party authorized Nikon repair company? If so, any recommendations (I live in Colorado)?

I had to pay Nikon Melville $251 including return shipping to fix the 10 pin connector on my D800e. I would guess that the HDMI repair would be about the same.

Note that's it likely the Nikon authorized repair centers are not yet authorized to repair a D800. This was the case for what I considered a simple warranty repair on my D4 earlier this year.

On my D700 the usb-connection is disfunctional. Nikon Service-centre told me that to repair it the whole unit needed to be replaced, which would cost - since it was out of warranty - around €450. I decided to save that money for the D800.

I would definitely apply for warranty!

Yes. My D800 was in warranty but Nikon judged that it must have been my fault - and charged me around $270.

Thanks for the information Pete.

That $119 HDMI LockPort D800 thing looks like a real bargain to me these days. There is no way the camera's mini HDMI connector is going to stand up to even occasional use. All I did was run a couple of tests with the Ninja 2 HDMI recorder and the built in connector didn't even last that long!

One nice thing about the LockPort product is that you can buy the connector separately (fairly cheap) in case you break it.
