for those that have suffered this problem, just wanted to let you know. I ordered a replacement cover from the Nikon Store on the 24th of Feb and I shipped on the 27th with 7 to 10 business days to arrive.

Cost was 3.90 dollar for the cover and 12.50 for the shipping.

I think I should have ordered a couple just in case.

Anyway I know there was another thread on this and wanted to let everyone know my experience.

Apply a small piece of black "gaffer's tape" over the hinge portion of the battery cover and overlapping onto the body. This will provide some measure of protection against losing the battery cover. Gaffer's tape does not leave a sticky residue when you pull it off. That's why I prefer it to something like electrical tape. Not the most elegant solution, but it works and gets the job done. Hey, what did you expect for a $3K camera? A good battery cover that won't come off?
