Why is the MB-D12 so expensive compared to the older MB-D10?

Putting my wish list together and noticed the MB-D12 is $449.95 and the MB-D10 that I use with my D700 is $249.95. What does the D800 grip do that the D700 + grip can't do? What makes it so expensive? I might have to consider a 3rd party grip once I get my D800 if one is available.

I am definitely waiting for a 3rd part grip. I would love to buy Nikon brand but I can't think of one single reason why I should pay $400 for a grip that adds nothing to my fx camera.
A 3rd party grip will prob cost $150 so why cant Nikon sell theirs for $250 ?

Agreed, but like iJOBS products, they will get sales regardless.
