The extended menu banks option is really nice on the D800. Do you think there is any chance that Nikon will release a firmware update so that the D700 will have this feature?

Even though Nikon could probably add the extended menu banks to previous cameras they probably won't do it. There have been several improvements in previous new models that one would think could be added to the firmware in older models, but these changes never happened.

I don't have my D800 yet, but I agree the extended menu banks option is a great feature. I am disappointed that Nikon does not include the AF mode in the extended menu banks data though. Based on the manuals the same oversight/deficiency exists in the D4 too.

Yeah. I understand what you mean. It is too bad though. I used a friends D800 and it's a very nice camera. I like my D700 though it's more than enough camera for me. The 12mp is just fine and 36mp is just overkill for me at least. In any case it's a great camera.

The D7000 goes one better and allows memorization of exposure compensation as part of its extended (U1/U2) bank. I REALLY rely on this on my D7000 with 0 through +0.7 default on my "slowly moving bird" setting and a default +1 through +2 EV setting on my BIF mode. I.e. on a cloudy day my BIF mode might be set to +2. On a blue-sky day my BIF mode is defaulted to +1.

I wish the D800/D4 would do likewise, love to see a firmware update for that! Plus Auto-ISO setting differences are needed in the memorization, which again the D7000 already does. Digressing and maddeningly on the D7K, U1/U2 do not allow one to change exposure mode. If you memorize Aperture priority there is no way to switch to manual.

Would like to see one function button toggle through the equivalent of U1/U2 with a best of all words fully inclusive settings list.

Best regards, SteveK

Extended menu banks can store up to four combinations of exposure mode, shutter speed and aperture value.
