I will be shooting a wedding in April in Texas. The wedding takes place starting at 7:00pm. The wedding party be using christmas lights and (sparkles). They want to make sure these lights show up great. I have Ranger RX, Ranger Quadra, SB910s for lights to choose from. I shoot with D3S and D800E.

It should get dark about 7:30 so the lights should show up great.

I have softboxes, and Unbrellas for light modifiers.

The question is how cam I maxamize the picture and effects so the lights sparkle and pop. What do I use? Strobe or Flash.

What kind of settings, (A) (S) (ISO). ?

Any help???

Thanks for helping....I need to do some test shots, I have time..

Tom:

Many photographers use the terms strobe, flash, speedlight, flashgun, etc. interchangeably.

In your mind, what is the difference between strobe and flash?

Is the wedding setting indoors or outdoors?

Are the christmas lights on trees, shrubs ... ?

What are sparkles: Passive reflective glitter, or illuminated devices of some kind?

Will you be capturing posed or candid images with the christmas lights/sparkles, or both?

Tell us a bit more and perhaps we can answer your question.

Strobs + Ranger RX, Ranger Quadra, more power

Flash = SB910s of course less power.

People holding 4th July sparkles, christmas lights all over the shrubs and trees.

Types of pictures would be candid and posed of course wedding.

Outdoor wedding, 1930 would mean getting dark soon.

The groom wants the lights to pop and glow with good pictures.
