$425 for a place to store your battery? Wow, Nikon is getting really audacious with pricing. I thought that the FT1 Cx to Fx lens adapter which consist of a ring and some electrical contacts were excessive at $275, but a battery grip for $425?

So, don't buy it.

For me, it's $425 to make my camera go from usable for 45 minutes, to usable for a full day's work. Paid for itself in 2 days.

And the FT1 took my V1 from toy to tool. Well worth the money.

If you have different priorities, then keep your money in your pocket. Best way to tell Nikon they are overcharging you.

Yep, too much for me. By making D800 body without the battery holder & vertical shutter button build in makes my D800 cheaper.

Check out the D700 choose between
$334 genuine MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack
or $40 Ebay copy.

Wait 6? months for 3rd party copies because Nikon genuine ones won't be dropping in price any time soon.

and I won't buy a D800. I will likely wait for D600 instead. I did buy a FT1 and sold it later because I did not help the J1 to become a tool. It was just a toy for my kid.

$425?!? I paid $529 for mine! About twice what I paid for my MB-D10, but I need it for vertical controls, so I bought it.

It's all about the necessity.

As for me, no way am I going to stick a $40 plastic grip on a $3000 camera.

As much as I dislike the price of the MB-D12, I share this sentiment. Just like I shouldn't complain about needing extra fast memory cards that cost $90 instead of $50.

Wait a minute...

You're complaining about the price of a MBD12 grip and you don't even own the camera it goes on?

Why?

I owned 3rd party grips before on other cameras and I was not able to tell the difference between the 3rd party and the Brand name when you are out in the field using it... it holds an extra battery, it got all the buttons in the same places, both are made out of plastic... to me the only difference was the name on the grip.

Completely agree. I'm amazed by folks who buy a top of the line, expensive camera and then want to save a few bucks by putting a cheap grip on the camera. I've always thought that was being pennywise and pound foolish, but as the French say, "Chaque a son gout."

"Nothing can be recognized without light and shade. It is only through the eye, the window of the soul, that we can truly understand the complex workings of nature." - Leonardo da Vinci
