DPreview is having a reader poll and after 10000+ votes, the D800/E and Olympus OM-D EM-5 are neck and neck with the D800 less than 1% behind. Nothing else is close.

Show some D800 love!

David,

Great idea encouraging others who like the D800 to vote. I did! But I wonder if there is someway that a Nikonian moderator... or someone... can make this poll more visible to all the D800 users without relying on them to 'check in' to the D800 Forum to find out about the poll?

PS: I am very competitive!!

I have difficulty with all the votes for an Olympus camera.

I guess people don't read anything any more. The Olympus company had been running a scam for several years, cooking their books, scamming investors.

The scam was revealed by a whistleblower, incredibly the newly hired CEO once he had a look at the (real) books.

Executive firings, board replacement. Possible civil and criminal actions. Certainly lawsuits.

The mentality of the management is displayed in this absolutely incredible announcement by the (now ex-) Olympus president:

"If this secret information had not been leaked, there would have been no change in our corporate value."

In other words, the bad people are the ones who uncovered the scam, not the people who perpetrated it.

Another incredible result: the medical community is very worried because Olympus endoscopes are considered irreplaceable.

The company management may have problems, but they are voting for the product, not the corporation.

I imagine there are some people who would never vote for the D800 because of the problems that they have had with it.

I hear good things about the Oly, but I'll vote for the D800, problems and all. Mine has been great!

Thanks guys!

I note that based on the number of votes, we are only 96 votes from taking the lead! How can we get all Nikonians to vote?

Whoooeeee, did I vote for the D800. YES!

My only problem with the camera is that it's lumpy under my pillow at night. We gotta win the vote!

C'mon Nikonians!

I did vote but would think it better if the D800 did not win. The reasons given as to why the Sony's and Olympus are better means the bias of the crowd is towards phone cameras and pocket cameras. A win by Nikon would drive even more point and shooters to get a camera that would be way too much for them and the howls of AF or dust would only get louder.

VW won Car of the Year and Ferrari did not with their 458 nor F12. That should be a badge of honor worn by Ferrari and keep their legal budget down by dissuading the rich kids who would have bought one and run it up the first telephone pole.

The Olympus is not a full frame body, but I guess none of that matters for DPR, it's about click through so all of the players are on the field.

Interesting point:

Which brings up another point --- Nikon's marketing philosophy, or my perception of it.

I now get with my Wall Street Journal, almost every day, a four page, full color "Target" (you know, all the toilet paper and plastic utensils you will ever need) flyer loaded with Nikon products, including the D4 and D800.

WHAT!!!??????

Pro Nikon cameras at Target????

Here we have another case where somebody with too much money will say, "Man! 36mP!! I gotta have that one!!" And Nikon will get a return because of "fuzzy" pictures, or the buyer will bad mouth the D800 on some blog.

I'm reminded of a post here a couple years ago of a guy who wanted to take pictures of a wolf at 500 yards and wanted to know how long a lens he needed to fill the frame of a D2x.
