I have just today noticed that the Memory card access lamp is flashing on and off. Shut camera down and took card out, put it back in, but same effect.

Any suggestions? Does anyone know what the flashing signifies?

Thanks

Have you tried taking pictures with the card in?

Have you tried a two-button reset?

I took the grip pack off, recharged the internal battery, put it all back on, took card out, etc. It seems to have settled down for the moment so I will wait and see. It takes pictures ok so I don't think it is the card.

Still wondering what the light means when flashing.

You might want to have a look at those pins (with a flashlight) to see if there isn't a slightly bent one...?

Besides when a picture is taken, the access light will briefly turn on when the following occur:

1) Pushing a CF memory card into place
2) Pushing a SD memory card into place
3) Turning the camera on.

There may be others!

Speaking of others, can someone please confirm whether the memory card access lamp lights in the following circumstance :-

- Camera switched on but not active (ie metering etc is off) ... then ...
- Press the shutter release button half way (to activate camera but NOT take photo)

Cheers

What brand grip are you using? I just had to replace my Meike grip (replaced with Nikon grip, I know expensive but good) due to battery draw and would cause the light to come on randomly also.... If it happens again with the grip installed, try just taking the grip off to see if that corrects the issue. If not, then I would agree and look at the memory card pins. Also another thought would be if the lens contacts needed cleaning and by moving camera around to remove and install batteries, may have restored contact for now. Just some thoughts to try if the issue comes up again.

I have heard of this behavior with other Nikon cameras while using third party battery grips. Might be your grip.

I have also been having this problem with the access lamp flashing on and off. After reading this and other posts re third part battery grips, I took off my Pixel grip and los and behold, the lamp no longer flashes. Rather than risk draining the battery (as some people have reported), I've bitten the bullet and ordered a Nikon MB-12 grip. Heigh-ho, the Pixel grip works fine, but if it's going to drain the battery that rather negates half the point of having a battery grip in the first place...

In addition to the items already identified, the green light also comes on briefly when you remove a memory card, turn the camera on or off, etc. I have a MB-D12 grip and the green light coming on seems to be the same both with or without the MB-D12 on the camera.

Even if the grip did seem to cause more occurences of the light coming on, the amount of power drawn is very small and is not an issue in terms of draining the battery. This argument seems "much ado about nothing".
