Has anybody tested the D800 + 300mm F2.8 MKI + TC20 III combo?

I am trying to see if is worth to trade my D3s for the D800, for the technological update and factory guarantee, but I have to be sure that the combo works at least as well as with the D3s.

Thanks,

PPP

PPP:
I'm not sure about a "300mm f/2.8 MKI". Is that a Cannon lens or a typo?

I recently took a number of photos in the Great Bear Rainforest in NW BC with the D800 + 300mm f/2.8 VRII (Nikon) + TC20 III for 600mm using AF @ f/5.6 & f/8 with very satisfying photos. This combination is a less expensive (well lessor expensive) slower 600mm with a fast 300mm option. Last year I rented a 600mm f/4 for use with a D300 for a trip to Yellowstone. True, the D300 is much less of a camera than the newer D800 but the use and feel of the lenses is similar. I was more comfortable with the 300mm + TC20 on a monopod and the subjects this year were closer. The attachments are full frame RAW images converted to a JPG. Note that I am an amateur, so perhaps my standards are a little lower as I am not selling my stuff and I don’t have the pressure of making a living from my hobby.

Thanks for the input, the lens is the Nikon 300mm f2.8 AF-S I, good shots, seams to me the lens + TC is still a good combo with the D800.
