When running the D7000 camera in self-timer mode, the flash, whether on-board or acting as commander and triggering SB-900, doesn't work beyond the first activation. Is this normal. I haven't noticed that this didn't work. Without flash, the self-timer work properly.

It will work if I use the Interval timer mode. That is, the flash will be fired repeatedly as dictated buy the settings of the interval timer.

I've looked throught Darrels book but didn't see reference to flash in his self timer section.

The upper left dial was set to self timer mode.

Question 2.
Is an intervalomter required to go beyond 30s exposure. I believe that I read this fact in these forums at one time. What would one suggest would be a suitable device.

Thanks

Maybe, just a thought, you should consider putting a few commands
on "Manual"

I use Nikon's MC-36 with great pleasure and confidence!

I read MC-36 isn't compatible with D7000?

You're right. The MC-36 attaches to the camera via the Nikon 10-pin, screw-on connector. The D7000 does not have a 10-pin port.

The MC-DC2 remote cord is helpful when using the bulb setting and timing manually.

I recall now, for >30s I can use the bulb setting with the remote IR trigger!

Many thanks to those who responded.

Yes, it's normal for the built-in flash. I don't have Darrel's book, but it is covered on page 81 of the manual:

"Note that only one photograph will be taken when the flash fires, regardless of the number of exposures selected for Custom Setting c3 (Self-timer; 0 214)."

If you mount an external flash however, it will fire repeatedly in self-timer mode.
