I am new to the D7000. When I zoom in using the Zoom button ( bottom left) of the monitor and wish to retain the' zoomed in' image that I have just taken, how do I go about doing this?
I use I Photo on my Mac and this also lets me zoom in but I have not figured out a way of retaining the image. I can crop and brush etc and retain the alterations but not the zoom feature.
I don't have Photoshop - is there a feature there that I could use?
Thanks for any help.

The zoom button does not zoom the image you're taking. It only zooms in on the LCD image you already took. You can only take a zoom photo by using the zoom ring on the lens.

Hi Malcolm,

Welcome to Nikonians!
As Len stated above, if you want to zoom in on a subject before you capture an image you must rotate the zoom ring on the lens.

If you want to crop an image that you have already captured you can do it in camera by going to the Retouch Menu and using the Trim tool to create a retouched copy of the original image and save it to the memory card.
See page 252 in the PDF version of D7000 Users Manual available at Nikons website or on the disk that came with the camera.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty
