Unfortunately that does not give us much to work on. What is a "passion" for you? For some it means reading up on everything possible, visiting art and photo galleries in person, enrolling in classes, and cleaned out the library of book on light, photography, visual perception, etc.
For others their "passion" is to have a new device to use to record memories and talk about.
Either camera will do as much as you need to learn a great deal and create great images. The D5000 is being discontinued so there will be great sales on it before Christmas so if your budget is limited the D5000 with kit lens would be hard to beat.
For at least a year or more you will not challenge the limits of either camera.
